Rum is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from sugarcane byproducts, such as molasses,or directly from sugarcane juice, by a process of fermentation and distillation. The distillate, a clear liquid, is then usually aged in oak barrels.
Cachaca is a distilled spirit made from sugarcane juice. Also known as aguardente, or other names, it is the most popular distilled alcoholic beverage in Brazil. Outside Brazil, cachaca is used almost exclusively as an ingredient in tropical drinks, with the caipirinha being the most famous cocktail
